Blue Shield for Casa Inca Garcilaso de la Vega

To celebrate International Museum Month 2021, a virtual ceremony took place on the 5th May to award a blue shield emblem to the Casa Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, the Regional Historical Museum of Cusco, which was declared a national historical monument in 1957. This is the first blue shield placed in the city of Cusco

The ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Culture through the General Directorate of Museums with the participation of Luis Martín Bogdanovich Mendoza, president of the Peruvian Committee of the Blue Shield; Eduardo Ugarte y Chocano, in charge of the Southern Section of the Peruvian Committee of the Blue Shield and president of ICOM Peru, Carlos Del Águila, director of the General Directorate of Museums, and representatives of the Municipality of Cusco and local authorities. The ceremony was held in the context of International Museum Month.

The blue shield is the internationally-recognised symbol to mark cultural property that should be protected in the event of armed conflict in the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.
