Blue Shield Georgia has been extremely busy recently, conducting training in First Aid to Cultural Heritage in crisis situations (see link for pictures) with staff from 11 museums in the Shida Kartli region, hosted by the Historical-Ethnographic Museum in Gori. The training was planned by the Georgian National Committee of the Blue Shield within the framework of the project “Planning for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Gori, Georgia”. The project is being implemented with the financial support of the ALIPH Foundation.
BS Georgia also supported a field exercise with the Georgian National Guard and the Emergency Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during which BS coordinated the emergency protection and evacuation of an archaeological site during a simulated natural disaster.
This work builds on a number of other training activities conducted by the Georgian National Committee including
- “First Aid to cultural heritage in Times of Crisis” organized by ICCROM and GNCBS in April / May 2019
- The 9th regional training for South Caucasus Museums – “Safeguarding Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis” organized by ICOM Georgia and taking place at Georgian National Museum, between July 17-19th 2019
- “Community Centred Tools for Sustaining Cultural Heritage and Building Disaster Resilience” with ICCROM in July/August 2019
