On 3 and 4 April 2025, the International Forum “Safe cultural heritage — European challenges in times of war and crisis” was held in Kraków, Poland. The event, organised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, was a meeting of experts from across Europe who discussed the key challenges of protecting cultural heritage in crises.

Blue Shield Poland was proud to support this excellent event. Krzysztof Sałaciński, President of the Polish Blue Shield Committee, moderated the panel: Heritage in the Face of Information Warfare and Armed Conflict.

This prestigious event is part of the activities undertaken under the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, and it aims to exchange experience, present good practices and develop common solutions for the protection of cultural heritage in situations of threat, both of war and crisis.

The Forum was attended by representatives of 27 European countries, including France, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Estonia, Italy, Norway, Czechia and Greece, among others. Experts from EU institutions such as the European Commission and leaders of international projects were also present, including PROCULTHER or CORILA, a research consortium working on a conservation system for the Venetian lagoon.

In total, the event was attended by more than 170 participants, including 75 guests from abroad, panellists, speakers and moderators, and representatives of cultural institutions, uniformed services and public administration.
