BS Poland celebrates International Day for Monuments and Sites 2024

On April 18, 2024, on the occasion of the International Day for Monuments and Sites (World Heritage Day), central celebrations co-organized by Polish Blue Shield Committee, were held in the Royal Castle in Warsaw. In 2024, the celebration has a special character because this year marks the 30th anniversary of granting the status of a historical monument to the first Polish monuments and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.

The 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention is an excellent opportunity to highlight the long-term activities of the Republic of Poland for the benefit of endangered cultural heritage and to draw attention to the achievements of Polish civilian experts involved in projects to protect cultural heritage in armed conflicts as part of the Polish Army mission in Iraq and Afghanistan.

During the ceremony, Krzysztof Sałaciński, President of the Polish Blue Shield Committee, presented a program speech under the significant title “70 years of the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property and what’s next?”

An important point of the ceremony was the decoration of conservation services employees and people who contributed to the safety of cultural heritage. During the celebration, members and experts of the Polish Blue Shield Committee were honoured for their contribution to the protection of cultural heritage in the event of a crisis and war situation. Among those decorated was Lidia Klupsz, a long-time Board Member of the Polish Blue Shield Committee and a former Board Member of the International Blue Shield Committee, who was honuored by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland with the Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis for distinguished contributions to  protection of the Polish culture and national heritage.
