ANCBS Statement on ISIS in Iraq, 10 March 2015

As the widespread fighting in Iraq increased, an extremist group calling themselves the Islamic State (ISIS) rose in power, taking over a large area of Iraq and Syria. Guilty of a huge number of human rights violations, the group have also destroyed cultural heritage.

The Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield deplores the closure of universities and schools and the destruction of libraries, museums, and archaeological sites in and around Mosul as publicised recently by the self-styled ‘Islamic State’.
